New exhibition of illustrations “Guznag's Garden” in the Botanical Garden Park

Guznag

Step into "Guznag's Garden", the new illustration exhibition at the JURASSICA Botanical Garden.

The exhibition invites you to discover the unique world of Julien Schmidt, also known as Guznag, an artist from Porrentruy with a distinctive and instantly recognisable style.

Set in the heart of the JURASSICA Botanical Garden, this open-air exhibition showcases animals that are already familiar inhabitants of the garden: birds, hymenoptera, amphibians and reptiles, arthropods, nocturnal creatures, and mammals.

Adding a touch of fantasy to the Botanical Garden, the artist’s imagined "marauders" will be watching you... hidden in various nooks and crannies. Will you be able to recognise the birds that inspired them?

The temporary exhibition will be on view from 28 June 2025 to 26 April 2026.

Guznag

After earning a high school diploma in visual arts in 2005, Julien Schmidt, also known as Guznag, graduated in 2009 from the Professional School of Contemporary Arts in Saxon. He then worked as a scientific illustrator for the Office of Culture of the Canton of Jura, within the archaeology and paleontology department. There, he illustrated several paleontological discoveries unearthed during the construction of the A16 motorway.

Today, his style is instantly recognisable: a distinctive world blending animals, caricatures, and sometimes even monsters. In recent years, he has gained recognition thanks to this unique style, and his work is now exhibited around the world. Yet his sources of inspiration have remained the same. The artist from Porrentruy, still deeply attached to his hometown, draws his creative energy from it.
