Jurassica Museum

Academic unit in geosciences

Since 2015, the JURASSICA Museum hosts an academic unit named Auxiliary Scientific Service in Geosciences (ASSG), resulting from a collaboration with the Department of Geosciences of the University of Fribourg. This academic unit is financially supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), the Jura Canton and the city of Porrentruy.

The mission of the ASSG is to maintain a local team of experts in geosciences and to highlight the regional paleontological and geological heritage though the mean of complementary academic training (lectures, practicals, field training...) and the development of international research projects.

The scientists of the JURASSICA Museum give lectures and organise field missions for several swiss and foreign intitutions (e.g. UNIFR, UNIGE, HE-Arc, University of Hanover). They also supervise students for professional internships or dissertation works at Graduate, Master and PhD levels. Part of the scientific staff also develop specific skills in the domains of fossil preparation and scientific illustrations.
