The main greenhouse complex, where a host of tropical plants are kept in hot, humid conditions, takes visitors on a journey to far-off lands. Here they can see a banana palm several metres high, towering tree ferns and cycads, along with all manner of useful plants. Banana palms, vanilla trees, pepper plants and coffee bushes grow alongside ginger plants and cocoa trees. Tropical plants are essential for producing much of our food, clothes and cosmetics. Unbeknownst to many, a host of species are part of everyday life.
