Banné archaeological dig
On Banné Hill above Porrentruy, find out what it’s like to work as a palaeontologist on an archaeological dig. You’ll be provided with the necessary equipment to get digging for real 152-million-year-old fossils and, with your guide’s help, have a go at identifying them. At the end of the session you can take your finds home with you.
Dates April to October (outside public opening times)
Duration Approx. 1 hr 30
Cost A contribution of CHF 5.00 per student is requested.
Educational trail
Follow this educational trail through the woods and learn about the fossil history of the Jura region from the information boards along the way. The trail leads you to an area of limestone containing actual dinosaur footprints that have remained in place since they were left there 152 million years ago. With your guide, measure the footprints and piece together the moment when a dinosaur walked across this very spot.
Dates April to October
Duration 2 hrs
Cost A contribution of CHF 5.00 per student is requested.
Dinotec
The many dinosaur footprints visible on the site raises many fascinating questions about the dinosaurs. How big were they? Did they live on their own or in groups? How can we best study them, and what can we learn from these signs of their presence here 152 million years ago?
Dates April to October
Duration Approx. 45 minutes
Cost CHF 50.00 per group.
Damphreux marshes
The marshes and lakes at Damphreux, just 7 km from Porrentruy, are an important area of semi-natural wetlands where a large number of plants and animals can be observed. Working with the Damphreux Marshes Foundation, JURASSICA organises guided birdwatching and/or botanical tours.
Duration Approx. 1 hr 30
Cost CHF 100.00 per group.
workshop
History Dig
This workshop will give students a better understanding of the similarities and differences between palaeontology and archaeology, allow them to get to grips with the techniques and technologies used, and encourage interest in the associated scientific professions.
Armed with a trowel, shovel and brush, the budding palaeontologists and archaeologists will dig deeper into the history of the objects they unearth and try to solve scientific puzzles using the evidence they find! This workshop takes place in the Museum activities room.
Duration Approx. 2 hrs 30
Cost A contribution of CHF 8.00 per student is requested.
